Minutes of Committee Meeting 2nd December
BURNHAM ON SEA ALLOTMENTS TENANTS
ASSOCIATION
Committee Meeting
Held at the Association premises on Tuesday 2nd December 2008 at 1930 hours. Those present were D Parsons, A Huddart, D Macbeth, C Bates, P Lawrence, D Rands, L Rands, and J Robertson.
Apologies were received from D Davies and B Pook. The meeting commenced at 1934 hours.
The Chairman welcomed Mrs. J. Robertson to the committee.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and proposed as a true record of that meeting by D Macbeth, seconded by C Bates and carried unanimously.
Matters arising - The Sid Lane cup presented by his son Tim is not, as was first thought, to be presented annually to the winner of the best kept plot competition but was given to the Burnham Horticultural Society to present annually to the allotment member who gains most points at the August show. The secretary stated that no contact had been made with Mrs. Libretto. There followed a further discussion regarding blight resistant potatoes but any firm suggestions were put back until early Spring. The hoses have not yet been taken in.
Any other business - A suggestion was made that a Certificate be awarded to the winner of the best kept plot. The committee was in complete agreement; an approximation of the cost could be around £5 for ten certificates although there are computer programmes that can do this sort of thing. The Chairman/Treasurer stated that his printer had packed and mentioned a sum of £50 to replace it. Mr. Rands said that he may be able to obtain a printer but would need notification within 48 hours.
The association website has had some good reports and the chairman stated that Mr. C Norton, a member, has volunteered to sponsor the site - a donation of £36 has been received by the treasurer. There were suggestions for many new inclusions to the site and the treasurer agreed to look into them all. A number of links to other sites will be included and a link to Sanders Garden World will be one of them. Some pages on the site will be hidden and accessed by use of a password.
D Rands said that he could obtain a small shelter just big enough to accommodate a few members if the weather took a turn for the worse. It was suggested that a possible siting might on part of the Millenium pond plot. The suggestion actually failed as there was no proposer for the idea.
Bad Plots - plot 26A Mrs. Kingsbury and plot 27B Mr. Bond have both been handed back and will be rescheduled.
The secretary was asked to write to Mrs. Lovell plot 35A, Mr. J Mount plot 35B, Mrs. Libretto plot 25A2 and Mr. R Thomas plot 24A giving them that statutory 4 weeks to bring plots up to the required standard.
A talk by Mr. Burks and Mr. Gray of Sanders on the subjects of plot judging priorities and potatoes could possibly be held at the Burnham Institute. It was generally thought that early next year would be a suitable time. The secretary to arrange.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 2038 hours.
A Huddart, Secretary
